Review

Without a doubt, this Adult-only campsite site will appeal to many Eribaists. It is a very quiet site and is listed on the Tranquil Parks website. It is well placed for easy access as it is just 1.5 miles off the A30 (Exeter to Okehampton Road) on the outskirts of the village of Whiddon Down, on the edge of Dartmoor National Park.

The park caters for caravans and motorhomes on fully serviced, well maintained and individual pitches and tents on grass. Even though there are just over 80 pitches this small site does not feel crowded owing to the well-planned layout. The park is about 18 years old and has recently been taken over by new owners who are happy to invest in its upkeep and development.

The Pitches

All the caravan pitches are all on hardstandings and are fully serviced with drinking water, electric and grey waste. The majority of the pitches are standard and will accommodate a unit up to 7.5 meters. This year (2021) the site has introduced Plus pitches which will accommodate units up to  8.5 meters. Each pitch is well marked. Be aware that though the pitches are charges according to their classification, ‘standard’ or ‘plus’ the actual size of the pitch can vary. You could be paying for the same prices for a smaller than average size pitch. Also, be aware that there are very strict rules regarding the grass associated with a pitch, basically nothing is allowed on the grass!

The Facilities

The facilities are central to the park with a new block being build to service the new larger pitches being established and hopefully will be open in 2022. The current facilities are spotlessly clean and offer male and female toilet and showering facilities. Washing up and laundry facilities. Elsan point and rubbish disposal point is set off to the edge of the complex before getting to the area being developed for the new pitches. All pitches have water and grey water disposal incorporated within the pitch.

Conculsion

It would be hard to better this campsite if you wanted to have a relaxing quiet time on the edge of the Dartmoor National park. It is about 20 mins from Exeter just off the A30 and so is easily accessible to the southern end of the M5. There is a local petrol station which incorporates a small supermarket not too far away, but for a larger supermarket, a visit to Exeter would be necessary.

Worth a visit – oh yes!
